what is Virtual machine/Hypervisor ?

A virtual machine (VM) is a software emulation of a computer system that can run its own operating system and applications as if it were a physical machine. It allows multiple operating systems to run on a single physical machine, with each operating system running in its own isolated environment.

A virtual machine is created by virtualization software such as VirtualBox, VMware, or Hyper-V, which create a layer of abstraction between the physical hardware of the machine and the virtual machine's operating system. This virtualization layer provides the virtual machine with its own virtual hardware resources, such as CPU, RAM, storage, and network interfaces.

Virtual machines are used for a variety of purposes, such as:

  • Running multiple operating systems on a single physical machine for testing or development purposes
  • Running legacy applications that require an older operating system or hardware configuration
  • Isolating applications or processes for security purposes
  • Creating virtualized infrastructure for cloud computing or data center management.

Virtual machines can be easily created, cloned, and deleted, providing flexibility and scalability in managing computing resources.
